Additional needs, often referred to as special needs, is a term applied to those pupils who need extra support in order to attain a level of achievement or realise their full potential.
They may be disabled (mentally or physically), may be financially disadvantaged, may be carers, may be home-schoolers, may be gifted or talented, or may be immigrants for whom English is a second language.
Additional help will be given depending on need but may include: help with reading, writing and comprehension, behaviour management, anger management, organisational skills, social integration and emotional literacy.
The pages on this site aim to offer help and guidance for teachers, parents and pupils.
