Who is a Nurture Group for?
More children in school nowadays have a history of poor and/or disrupted parenting, and have seriously under-developed emotional, social and linguistic skills. It is recognised that intellectual development is closely related to early experiences and that children who lack positive early life experiences are more likely to have difficulty in learning.

They are likely to be unable to listen, attend, share, play and learn co-operatively/collaboratively and will likely have few friends.

The children’s behaviour may also be very disruptive and could interrupt the learning of other children in the class.

Participation in mainstream schooling is difficult for these children and often their access to a broad and balanced curriculum is restricted as a result of their difficulties.
It is becoming increasingly acknowledged that children whose fundamental emotional and social needs have not been met during their early formative years will benefit by having the opportunity to develop an understanding of both their own and others needs in just such an environment and this in turn will impact on their ability to learn.
