Teaching Online
Online learning requires schemes of work for each subject to be taught and clear learning objectives for each lesson in the same way as classroom based teaching.
Using Key Questions
Many Schemes of Work incorporate key questions for each lesson or group of lessons. These questions can be used as a starting point for Online Learning:
The learner can be given one of the key questions and asked to find the answer through the Internet or a software CD. They will then produce a piece of work of their own choosing that shows that they have answered the question. Having answered the first key question they would then progress to the next.

Key Questions for one unit from a Science scheme of work might be:
How are animal and plant cells formed?
How do cells form tissues?
How do tissues form organs?
For pupils with low motivation levels these questions might be subdivided by the teacher and time limits set for return of answers. Eg. The teacher, either face to face, via email or video conferencing, would tell pupils ‘You have five minutes to find out how a cell is formed.’ Pupils could search the Internet independently or suitable website(s) could be suggested

When this step is completed the teacher could then give pupils a time limit in which to produce an informative piece of work that shows their understanding.
Alternatively, The teacher could work through the above exercises with the pupils, communicating regularly through instant messaging or video conferencing, offering guidance and explanation.
